10 Most Frequently Fundraiser Questions

1. How many people buy plants?

It would be impossible to know just how many people buy plants, but we do know that on average, 90% of families buy plants at least twice during the course of the year. They are normally purchased for both gift-giving and personal use.

2. How much do we charge on the plants?

Therein lies the beauty of the plant fundraiser. We charge the flat price on the size product you choose. The prices range from $4.00 - $48.00 depending on the product selection you and your customers make. Considering the quality of the product and its lasting value, it is the most popular item to be offered in fundraising today.

3. How are the plants packaged?

The plants are protected by a paper or plastic "sleeve" that protects them from damage and makes transporting them a breeze.

4. Are plants priced higher than in stores and in major retail outlets?

In many instances, the prices of our plants are higher than those in "box stores." This is due to the quality of the product and the personal attention and service given to your organization. Your product is delivered directly to your door on your designated date and time.

5. Will plants be as successful as gift wrap, candy cookie dough and other products that have been selling for years?

There are so many factors that contribute to a successful sale, not the least of which is the value of the product offered. Our fundraising efforts began when my step-daughter was a drum major at her high scholl in our city.My family, friends and co-workers were seriously burnt out on items that held little value or quality. Plant fundraisers have been much more successful than any other product sold today. (Note: We suggest that if you are uncertain, try a plant program along with another product...you'll be shocked by the difference!). Plants, unlike cookie dough and candy, are non-caloric, provide long-lasting color, and bring joy and happiness to people's lives.

6. Do you think our sale will be a success even though there are only a few members?

The number of members in your organization makes no difference. We always enjoy telling the story of the scout troop of 20 that had a $5,000.00 sale and an elementary scholl of 100 who sold $20,000.00.

7. Can we sell plants two years in succession and have the second year be as successful?

Past experiences show that the second year is usually even more successful in that people are aware of the quality, value and service and buy even more than they did the year before. (Note: Many groups have been selling plants since they were introduced into fundraising 20 years ago. We also like to tell the story of the groups that decided to try something different the second year and hear from their customers, "Where are the plants?", "How am I going to decorate my office?", "Where do I go to get poinsettias that last three months and can be transplanted?".

8. Are all plant items available in fundraising?

All items grown here at Dietert Greenhouses, inc. are offered in our fundraising programs. The most popular plant listing is provided to you upon request. This listing is compiled based on past sales, customer requests and market trends.

9. There is another group in our area selling plants. Will that hurt our fundraiser?

No, just the opposite. The more exposure people have to plants, the more accepted they are, especially at holidays and in the spring. People want to buy something they like and are happy to be able to provide support to a non-profit organization. In many instances businesses that purchase plants for their customers are can deduct the expense from their taxes.
